Wrong beliefs about Chinese products.
You can hear and read a lot of delusionabout China, and not all of them are true! In this article we collected the most common delusions about China, Chinese people and goods, and we would like to explain how everything is really going on. For those who do not know a lot about modern China, we presentonly a small part of a huge range of examples. These examples show how the friendly and hard working people have turned their poor non-developed country into one of the most powerful countries in the world in a short time.
The Stereotype №1.China is a backward and non-developed country.
It’s absolutely wrong. There is no need to prove to a person who have been visited China at least once, that China is a modern country, which has been developing rapidly and has already left behind many so called well-developed countries. If we speak about people from the biggest cities of China, such as: Beijing, Hong Kong, Shanghai and so on – we will see that they have reached the higher level of the life quality, they are living in the century which is next after the century that most of our countrymen are still living in.
Beijingis the largest railway and road junction and one of the main airline junctions of the country. Besides, Beijing is a political, educational and cultural center of the People’s Republic of China, while the mail economic centers are Shanghai and Hong Kong.
In 2008 the Summer Olympic Games were held in Beijing.
The stereotype №2. The Chinese cannot create, they can only copy and fake.
In fact, Chinais the motherland for some of the most significant inventions of mankind including the four great inventions of ancient China: paper, compass, powder, book printing. A fork, a toothbrush, playing cards, a fan blower, porcelain, silk, mirrors, umbrellas and paper snakes – this is only a small list of our usual items that were invented by the Chinese.

The stereotype №3. China produces only low-quality goods.
This is far from the truth. There is a huge range of high-quality goods produced in China. Many world brands have their factories in China. You can see some of them on the picture below:

According to the rating “500 best world brands in 2009” – 88 ranks are taken by Chinese companies. But, as in any country, there are high-quality and relatively high-quality goods made in China. The Chinese speak: “You, foreigners, are responsible for the fact that many people criticize the quality of our goods! You ask us to sell you the cheapest goods – we sell them, and why are you surprised with the low quality of those goods?” You would probably agree that the high-quality product should not have the lowest cost! This principle works inChina too! The high-quality product reasonably has thehigher cost, but still, even for theproduct with an excellent quality the price in China will be much lower than in any other country.
The stereotype №4.The prices for the goodsin China are low because of the low quality.
This is not exactly the truth. To befrank- this is completely wrong statement. There is a range of other objective factors that allow to set low prices for Chinese products. The main factor is the production cost saving. The total cost islower due to the labor cost, close location to the cheap raw materials, lower rent and land cost, great quantities of produced products, as well as the preferential tax policy and a large number of less visible but very significant factors. All those factors dramatically reduce the production cost of goods as well as the cost of the finished product.
The stereotype №5.It is much better to buy a product produced in Germany, Italy or at least in Turkey rather than in China.
Do you know that the world-famous brands rely on Chinese factories in producing their products?
For example, there is a huge shoes factory in the south of China. This name is not familiar to you– “Yue Yuen”. But this very factory is one of the biggest sport shoes producers in the world. And you know definitely such brandsas Nike, Adidas, Reebok, Puma or New Balance that are being produced at this very factory.
And we can suppose that most of people consider the mentioned companies as huge producers of sport shoes in the world instead of the Chinese factory “Yue Yuen” – the real producer of those shoes.
Most Chinese factories export 90% of the produced goods. And 80% of these goods are to be sold under the most known brand names. Many businessmen from CIS countries prefer to write “Made in Russia” or “Made in Ukraine” etc. on the products made in China.
According to some sources, 95% of the Adidas sport shoes are produced in China and other Asian countries, although we can buy those shoes then under a different brand name in any place in the world – Europe, America and Australia. There is no need to say, what the price will be. Chinese sellers are silent about the fact that the product is produced in China. Can you guess why?
One more stereotype is that it is not prestigious to buy Chinese products.
Most of products including the most known brand names (what about just “brands”?), which are widely used by people from different countries, are produced in China. Look around: footwear, cloth, equipment – 80% of all those products is made in China. Whether you like it or not, but global brands are connected with Chinese factories, just many of them can hide this fact carefully. You probably know that some years ago some EU countries adopted the law that obliges towrite the real country of origin on the product label? This law led to the fact that you see “Made in China” on the label of some D&Gjeans or Gucci bags. Many famous brands were forced to admit that their goods are really being produced in China.
But if the phrase “Made in China” makes you doubt whether to purchase or not, answer the question…What is better: to buy an original quality Chinese product or to buy a fake with the other country on the label? What is more prestigious: to buy a high-quality good without overpayments or to blow a huge amount of money on a brand product which you can recognize only due to the label? It is up to you: to buy original Chinese high-quality goods or to chase for the prestige only and to wear doubtful fakes realizing that you will be cheated in 80% of cases.
